VIEWS ON KNIFE AND GANG CRIME IN WALSALL |
 |
| Overview of Consultation: |
Childrens Trust Youth Opinions Unite are working with the United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP) Members and Deputy Members for Walsall. The UKYP representatives will be consulting with young people across the Borough to find out their views on knife and gang crime in Walsall. Adults were also asked for their comments too. This will be their main local campaign for their elected term 2010/2011.
The need to consult with young people came from a questionnaire delivered during the 2010 elections. The questionnaire asked young people what their main issues and concerns were as a young person living or attending school in Walsall. Over 7000 young people completed the questionnaire and the top issue was Knife and gang crime in Walsall. |

| How is this consultation being carried out? |
The first part of the consultation took place Saturday 15th May 2010 in Walsall Town Centre. The team had a market stall for the day. The UKYP representatives interviewed young people using questionnaires and video. Comment boxes were also available for people who did not want to complete questionnaires but want to have their say.
To date approximately 100 young people have been consulted. This figure will rise as the consultation continues. The consultation will continue throughout the year.
